Michael Holohan, PhD

Professional Experience

I have been providing English-language editing and academic writing coaching to scholars from throughout Europe since 2015. I have worked with researchers and students in the the social sciences, humanities and life sciences. I have particular experience working with scholars in the social sciences. I also provide German-to-English translation for universities and individual scholars, including articles for publication, websites, advertizing materials, and forms and legal contracts.

I taught academic writing at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) for many years and I was a writing consultant at TUM's English Writing Center, where I worked one-on-one with students and faculty to improve their academic English writing skills. I have also worked as a writing consultant in the Writing Center at University College Dublin.

I am also a psychoanalyst in private practice in Münich, Germany who works in person and online in English. You can find more information about this at michaelholohan.com.

Education

I earned a PhD in the History of Consciousness from the University of California Santa Cruz in 2014. My doctoral thesis focused on the role of rhetorical and figurative language in psychoanalytic writing. I also hold master's degrees from New York University, the University of Essex and University College Dublin.
